THE WINNER OF THE NATIONAL BANK OF GEORGIA’S FIRST COLLECTOR BANKNOTE DESIGN COMPETITION WAS ANNOUNCED

In a design competition for the National Bank of Georgia's first commemorative 50-Lari banknote, the winning entry came from Koenig & Bauer Banknote Solutions, a renowned Swiss company founded in 1952. Their design centers on a powerful theme including Georgia's rich history and cultural heritage interwoven with its vision for the future – a modern, European, and economically independent nation

The banknote features a vertical layout instead of the traditional horizontal format typically used. This symbolizes Georgia's progress towards a sustainable future. Bright colors metaphorically represent the nation's rich cultural diversity

Planned for issuance in 2025, this first commemorative 50-Lari banknote from the National Bank of Georgia denotes the 30th anniversary of the Georgian currency Lari's introduction.

The introduction of the Lari marked a significant step towards Georgia's political and economic independence, solidifying its transition to a market economy. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the National Currency Lari  in 2025, the National Bank of Georgia held an international design sketch competition for the first collectible 50 Lari banknote a few month ago. Eleven companies and individuals participated overall in the competition.
