Georgian PM, Council of Europe Sec Gen discuss productive cooperation
Productive cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe was discussed on Monday in a meeting between Georgian prime minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Alain Berset, the secretary general of the Council of Europe, on the sidelines of the ongoing European Political Community summit in Yerevan.
Kobakhidze reaffirmed his government’s readiness for dialogue and its commitment to constructive engagement in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
The Georgian side expressed concern over what it described as a growing trend of using international mechanisms for politically motivated purposes and voiced hope that such practices would change.
The discussion also highlighted the Georgian government’s commitment to protecting fundamental freedoms, advancing democratic reforms, and ensuring the rule of law.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, took part in a roundtable discussion on Strengthening Connectivity and Economic Security as part of the 8th Summit of the European Political Community (EPC).
According to the Georgian government, Kobakhidze highlighted Georgia’s vital role in ensuring connectivity and outlined major infrastructure projects currently underway, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, high-speed highways, and the Anaklia Deep Sea Port.
He also stressed the importance of diversifying transport and energy routes, emphasising the strategic significance of the Southern Gas Corridor and the Black Sea Submarine Cable projects.
The government conveyed that Irakli Kobakhidze reaffirmed his commitment to close cooperation with international partners, emphasising that robust connectivity is a key prerequisite for long-term stability.
The discussion was co-chaired by Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of Croatia and Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Norway. Participants included Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada; Bart De Wever, Prime Minister of Belgium; Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission; Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, President of North Macedonia; Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia and Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
