Ambassadori Island's First Tower Enters a New Phase of Construction

The debut building of Ambassadori Island Batumi, a landmark structure of profound historical significance, has officially entered its next phase of construction. This premium multifunctional complex seamlessly integrates residential apartments, a dedicated helipad, entertainment and wellness spaces, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fitness centers, and branded boutique shops. The bespoke interior architecture for the residences was designed by the acclaimed Italian studio D73.

To guarantee the structural integrity and long-term durability of the high-rise on this newly reclaimed peninsula, engineering techniques of the highest international standards are being deployed. To optimize structural reliability and absolute stability, the heavy foundation piles penetrate to an impressive depth of 65 meters.

Currently, active construction is progressing at the +6.00 meter mark. The vertical reinforced columns for the parking structure and the primary elevator shaft walls have already been successfully poured. Simultaneously, formwork assembly and reinforcement operations for the third level continue on the upper deck. On the main footprint of The First Tower itself, foundation engineering and ground preparation progress in parallel.

Advancing at this rapid pace, well ahead of schedule, serves as clear proof that the Black Sea's most innovative development is unfolding with an exceptional combination of stringent international standards and unprecedented construction momentum.

Following the successful completion of a rigorous initial testing phase, the first 35 foundation piles for the tower have already been installed. The commencement of full foundation works was preceded by a comprehensive cycle of test pile installations and extensive laboratory validations.

Unprecedented momentum continues to define the Ambassadori Island Batumi project. Progress remains substantially ahead of the original timeline, fulfilling core investment commitments a remarkable five years ahead of schedule. The 48 hectares of newly created land in the Black Sea have already been officially commissioned. With operations now transitioning rapidly into above-ground structural works, the sheer scale and dynamic pace of this megaproject are becoming more visible by the day.

29.06.2026.13:08

BioChimPharm has been included in the 2026 report of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which is dedicated to the global problem of antimicrobial resistance and approaches to addressing this crisis.

The excessive and irrational use of antibiotics leads to antimicrobial resistance (when antibiotics become ineffective against bacteria). Today, this problem causes approximately 1.3 million deaths worldwide each year, and by 2050 it is expected to exceed tens of millions if the same trend continues. At present, during this global challenge, bacteriophages (phages) are considered the only available and safe alternative to antibiotics. Unlike antibiotics, phages selectively destroy only harmful bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains, without damaging the beneficial microbiota in the human body.

In the report, Phagyo® and the phage-producing company BioChimPharm are identified as making a significant contribution to the fight against antibiotic resistance. The document also highlights Georgia’s potential in the development of phage therapy.

The EBRD report places special emphasis on the modernization of BioChimPharm’s production facility in compliance with international GMP standards, which was implemented in 2023 with the support of the EBRD and other local and international partners. As part of the project, the world’s first phage production facility, founded in 1934, was upgraded and transformed into a high-tech biopharmaceutical manufacturing site compliant with international GMP standards.

According to the report, the modernization of the facility has enabled BioChimPharm to scale up production and further contribute to the development of phage therapy both in Georgia and in international markets.

“For us, as an EBRD partner in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, it is a great honor to receive such recognition for our journey. We are especially pleased that, with the support of the EBRD and our other partners, the world’s first phage production facility, founded in 1934, has been modernized and transformed into an innovative manufacturing site. This gives us the opportunity to bring GMP phages and phage therapy to even more patients and to contribute globally to addressing the challenge of antimicrobial resistance,” said Rati Golijashvii, General Manager of BioChimPharm.
