Azerbaijani PM Highlights Middle Corridor, Green Energy Cooperation with Georgia
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov on Friday emphasised that expanding cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan served the interests of both countries, expressing confidence that the decisions made at the meeting would further strengthen their strategic partnership.
Addressing the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan, Asadov highlighted transport and transit as among the most important areas of bilateral cooperation.
“Cooperation in the electricity sector is developing successfully. We are working on the Green Energy Corridor to Europe project, which is a highly significant factor for Europe’s energy security. Transport and transit represent one of the most important areas of our cooperation. Our countries are working jointly on the development of the Middle Corridor. A key component of this route is the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, as well as plans to increase its throughput capacity to 5 million tonnes. This is the result of our successful joint efforts”, the Prime Minister said.
Asadov further noted that cultural and humanitarian cooperation remained one of the priority areas of bilateral relations.
“I hope that construction of the new building for the Heydar Aliyev Tbilisi Azerbaijani Professional Drama Theatre will begin in the near future. The Azerbaijani and Georgian communities living in our respective countries play a special role in strengthening relations between our nations. Ensuring education in native languages, alongside the achievements of the relevant schools, contributes to strengthening ties between our peoples”, he added.
“Mr Prime Minister [Irakli Kobakhidze], expanding cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan serves the interests of both countries, and I am confident that today’s decisions will contribute to further strengthening our strategic partnership”, Asadov concluded.
