The Land Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia on Saturday launched a digital system for issuing and exchanging permit documents for international road freight transportation between Georgia and Uzbekistan, enabling carriers to use fully electronic permits.

The new mechanism ensures rapid and secure exchange, registration, and monitoring of permits, reduces administrative and technical barriers, and increases the efficiency of the transportation process.

Bakur Mikadze, Director of the Land Transport Agency, noted that the launch represents another step in the digitalisation of international road transport administration.

“The introduction of the digital permit system is an important step toward establishing modern standards for the administration of international road freight transportation. Following the successful launch of similar systems with Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Kazakhstan, the transition to a digital format with Uzbekistan is a logical continuation of this process and another significant step forward”, he said.

“This cooperation is particularly important against the backdrop of the growing role of the Middle Corridor, as fast, secure and digital permit procedures contribute to increasing the corridor’s competitiveness, ensuring the smooth movement of cargo, and strengthening Georgia’s position as an important transit and logistics link connecting Europe and Asia. The digital transformation of transport processes with partner countries is one of the agency’s priorities”, Mikadze noted.

The agency also plans to gradually extend the digital permit system to additional partner countries, with the aim of further simplifying trade and logistics procedures and strengthening Georgia’s position as a regional transit hub.
