Finance Minister engages with FCDO Deputy Director
Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili met Mark Clayton, Deputy Director and Head of the Central Asia and Eastern Neighbourhood Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and British Ambassador to Georgia Gareth Ward.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the Minister briefed the guests on the country’s current macroeconomic indicators and medium-term forecasts. Emphasis was placed on the progress and stability Georgia has achieved in recent years regarding economic growth and fiscal policy. They reviewed ongoing cooperation of future partnership issues.
Deputy Finance Minister Ekaterine Guntsadze attended the meeting.

“Travel time on the Tbilisi-Batumi and Batumi-Tbilisi railway lines has been reduced to 4 hours,” said Lasha Abashidze, Director General of Georgian Railway company.
According to Abashidze, this is a significant improvement compared to the previous 5 hours and 30 minutes.
“Recently, we carried out major capital works on the tracks and infrastructure, which enabled us to increase speeds on certain sections. This allowed us to lift speed limits and travel from Tbilisi to Batumi safely in 4 hours,” he said.
Lasha Abashidze further noted that Georgian Railway completed reconstruction works at several train stations; The company’s goal is to fully upgrade not only the stations on the main lines but also the suburban stations.
“The rehabilitation of 5–7 stations is effectively already underway, and we intend to add another 5 stations this year. We also aim to fully complete the station rehabilitation next year,” he said.
