Irakli Nadareishvili, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, said on Thursday that the country’s Economic Development Corporation was expected to facilitate approximately ₾40 billion ($14.8 billion) in investment over the next 10 years.

Speaking on Imedi LIVE, Nadareishvili said the corporation had ambitious plans, with around two-thirds of the projected investment set to flow into sectors in which the state has so far played a less active role.

“As I mentioned, approximately 90,000 jobs have been created. We have very ambitious plans. The corporation will facilitate around ₾40 billion ($14.8 billion) in investment over the next 10 years. Importantly, two-thirds of this will be directed toward new sectors in which the state has not been as actively involved to date”, Nadareishvili said.

He pointed to the hotel industry as an example of the impact of state-supported programmes, noting that more than 500 hotels had benefited from the financial component of a government initiative.

Nadareishvili also identified increasing the capital market’s share of Georgia’s overall financial sector to approximately 40% over the next decade as another key objective.

“If we can already say that the agency has played a significant role in developing the hotel sector, with more than 500 hotels benefiting from the programme’s financial component, then in less than 10 years we will be able to assess how much the capital market’s share of our financial sector has grown”, he said.

He added that developing the capital market would mark significant progress in several areas, including job creation, investment attraction, economic growth and exports.

23.10.2026.18:03

Ekaterine Mikabadze, First Vice Governor of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), participated in the annual international conference of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which was hosted this year in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. This year’s conference focused on strengthening financial resilience.

The event brought together more than 50 representatives from 15 Eastern European countries, who shared information on major financial education projects and best practices implemented over the past two years. Panel discussions also addressed the development of evidence-based policy frameworks, research into citizens’ financial behavior, and the benefits of game-based learning.

During the conference, Ekaterine Mikabadze met with Miles Larbey, Head of Financial Consumer Protection, Education and Inclusion at the OECD, to discuss future cooperation between Georgia and the OECD. Miles Larbey highlighted the significant and commendable contribution of the NBG’s representatives in sharing knowledge and experience in financial education with other countries.

“Financial education is one of the NBG’s priorities. We are implementing numerous innovative projects; however, technological advances also bring new challenges. Therefore, the continuation of and support for the OECD program will be important for our country,” said Ekaterine Mikabadze.

Ketevan Akhalkatsi, Head of the Financial Education and Strategic Development Department at the NBG, also participated in the OECD’s annual conference, where she presented the NBG’s game-based programs and future plans to promote financial education. The NBG’s interactive educational projects, which use game-based learning methods, attracted particular interest from conference participants.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Finance of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the OECD International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE) as part of an OECD technical assistance project. The Central Bank of Armenia co-organized the event.

Established in 2008, the OECD International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE) aims to promote international cooperation among public authorities and other stakeholders working in financial education. It serves as a platform for collecting financial education data, preparing analytical and comparative reports, conducting research, and developing policy documents. The OECD/INFE brings together nearly 300 public institutions from more than 130 countries.
