Georgia’s foreign cargo trade volume rises by 5.8% in first half of 2026 - Geostat
According to data released by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat), the country’s external merchandise trade turnover (excluding undeclared trade) reached USD 12,925.4 million during January–June 2026, marking a 5.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
GeoStat reports that within this turnover, exports accounted for USD 3,876.3 million, representing a substantial 20.0% surge, while imports amounted to USD 9,049.1 million, registering a modest growth of 0.7%.
Georgia’s negative trade balance stood at USD 5,172.9 million for the first six months of 2026, comprising 40.0% of the total external trade turnover.
Furthermore, the agency’s report highlights that the top ten largest trading partners accounted for 66.3% of Georgia’s total foreign trade volume during this period. The country’s primary trading partners are Turkey, leading with USD 1,659.4 million, followed by Russia at USD 1,527.6 million, and China at USD 1,496.7 million.

Five leading Georgian commercial banks, Bank of Georgia, TBC Bank, Liberty Bank, Terabank and Basisbank, will transform their treasury infrastructure using the Nasdaq Calypso system, an internationally recognised platform, the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) announced.
According to the NBG, Nasdaq is announcing this development to the public via a banner displayed in New York’s Times Square.
The NBG further stated that the Nasdaq Calypso shared platform is being implemented with the support of the National Bank of Georgia and under the auspices of the Georgian Financial Markets Treasury Association, providing the reliable, world-class infrastructure needed to foster the further growth of the banking sector.
“This initiative, which is being implemented within the framework of the “Georgia Financial Markets Development Program” (GMAP) and coordinated by the Georgia Financial Markets Treasury Association (GFMTA), represents a significant milestone in the development of Georgia’s financial markets.
The partnership with Nasdaq represents another important milestone in the transformation of Georgia’s commercial banks and will support their integration into the global banking system,” the NBG said.
