Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday highlighted Georgia’s strong economic performance, noting that the country recorded 8.6% growth in June and a 7.9% average growth rate in the first half of the year, while stressing that sustaining robust economic expansion remains a key priority.

In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that several sectors made the largest contributions to economic growth, including manufacturing, transport, construction, information technologies, as well as the financial and insurance sectors.

“Alongside maintaining a high pace of economic growth, international financial institutions have increased their initial forecasts, which is also important. These results are, on the one hand, the outcome of successful economic policy and, on the other hand, the result of our efforts to eliminate corruption at the highest levels of government”, Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister added that further efforts are needed to combat corruption at lower levels, while stressing thathis government has already introduced a fundamental transformation in the governance system.

“Maintaining a high rate of economic growth is linked not only to successful economic policy but also to the elimination of corruption. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Minister of Economy and his team. The achievements we have in the economic field are the result of their successful work”, Kobakhidze concluded.
