International interest in Georgia's transport and logistics corridor continues to grow - Deputy Economy Minister
“Both the functional capacity of Georgia’s corridor and the country’s role in regional logistics are on the rise,” said Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani, commenting on cargo throughput statistics at Georgia’s seaports.
She noted that the results for the first four months of 2026 clearly demonstrate that international interest in and demand for Georgia’s transport and logistics corridor continues to grow.
“In the January–April period, the volume of cargo processed at Georgia’s seaports and terminals approached 6 million tonnes, representing an increase of approximately 21 per cent compared to the same period last year. I would also highlight container throughput volumes: over this period, approximately 260,000 TEUs were processed at our ports, reflecting nearly 8 per cent growth. Growth has been recorded across virtually every major segment. Particularly noteworthy are ferry, general, containerised, and bulk cargoes alike,” the Deputy Minister said.
Ioseliani argued that, at a time when speed, predictability, and reliability are becoming decisive factors in international freight transport, Georgia is steadily consolidating its position on precisely these fronts.
“Georgia ensures the efficient movement of goods between Europe and Asia through multimodal infrastructure, flexible logistics capabilities, and growing connectivity. It should also be noted that these results once again bear out the Georgian government’s consistent policy of strengthening the country and cementing its role as a reliable, efficient, and strategically significant transport and logistics hub in the region,” Tamar Ioseliani concluded.
