Georgia plans to mobilize approximately $7 billion for the development of transport infrastructure by 2032, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tamar Ioseliani said while addressing a ministerial forum held as part of the Global Sustainable Transport Forum in China.

According to the Deputy Minister, the investments will cover the development of railway, maritime, aviation, and road infrastructure, including the Anaklia deep-sea port and the new international airport in Vaziani.

“Through these projects, Georgia is further strengthening its role in the transport system connecting Europe and Asia. Moreover, Georgia’s strategic location on the Black Sea provides eight landlocked countries in the wider region with access to international maritime routes. That is precisely why the safety, efficiency, reliability, and predictability of transport connections passing through Georgia are of particular importance to us,” Ioseliani said.

Speaking at the forum, Ioseliani noted that, for Georgia, the development of sustainable transport entails creating a modern and efficient transport system that fosters economic growth and the country’s long-term development.

According to the Deputy Minister, this approach is reflected in Georgia’s 10-year transport development plan and is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Georgia is ready to continue working with China and all countries involved in the Middle Corridor to enhance the corridor’s competitiveness, Ioseliani said while addressing the ministerial forum held as part of the Global Sustainable Transport Forum in China.

In her remarks, Ioseliani also emphasized the importance of cooperation with China and the countries participating in the Middle Corridor.

“Investments in infrastructure and international cooperation should ensure faster, more efficient, and reliable transport connections and create new economic opportunities for the entire region,” Ioseliani said.
