Serbian President arrives in Georgia for historic first official visit
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, together with his wife and a state delegation, on Monday arrived in Georgia on an official visit.
He was met at Tbilisi International Airport by Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Economy and Sustainable Development Minister.
Kvrivishvili said the visit carries particular importance for strengthening trade and economic relations between the two countries, noting that it was also a historic visit as it marks the Serbian President’s first trip to Georgia.
“The visit of the Serbian President will have a very important role in strengthening trade and economic relations between the countries, as within the framework of the visit there will also be important bilateral meetings, including at the leadership level. The significance of the visit is further highlighted by the ongoing important negotiations between Georgia and Serbia, which envisage the signing of a free trade agreement between the two countries”, she said.
Kvrivishvili noted that this agreement would be of great importance for both countries, trade turnover would increase, and the progress the Georgian Government had made in the ongoing negotiations with Serbia was particularly noteworthy.
“We believe this will be a precedent-setting decision, as two states will sign a free trade agreement in such a short period of time, which will support trade and economic relations between the countries and increase exports from Georgia, which will of course be important for the further development of our country’s economy”, Kvrivishvili concluded.
