The winter tourism season will open in Gudauri on December 20 with a grand event, and it will be one of the most successful seasons - Irakli Nadareishvili
“Preparations for the winter tourist season are in full swing, and of course our ski resorts play the leading role here,” said Irakli Nadareishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
Speaking about the winter tourist season, the Deputy Minister said that Gudauri will offer some particularly notable new features this year.
“This concerns new ski runs and new cable cars. Snowmaking will cover almost 8 km of additional runs, floodlighting will be installed on the slopes in New Gudauri, and there will be many other new features for both foreign tourists and local holidaymakers to enjoy,” Irakli Nadareishvili said.
According to the Deputy Minister, the winter tourist season will open with a grand event also in Gudauri on 20 December. He predicts it will be one of the most successful seasons yet, not least thanks to the new features at the ski resorts.
“In terms of positioning our country as a four-season tourist destination, the winter season is especially important. That is why the state traditionally takes care both to develop infrastructure and to provide additional services at our ski resorts,” Irakli Nadareishvili said.

“A year ago, one of Georgian Railway’s major challenges was its ageing rolling stock. As a result of changes in the company’s management approach, operational processes have improved, costs have been cut, and the resources saved have been put towards the company’s development,” the Director General of Georgian Railway said at an event marking Railway Workers’ Day.
According to Lasha Abashidze, the company has already purchased 200 new freight wagons, around 50 of which are already in Georgia, and there are plans to double this figure by the end of the year. Lasha Abashidze said that the process of purchasing up to 50 new locomotives for the railway is already underway.
“This is a truly historic process, because one of our fundamental challenges is our ageing locomotive fleet,” the Director General of Georgian Railway said.
