Parliament supports amendment on funding for students enrolled before December 17, 2025
The Parliament of Georgia considered the draft law “On Amendments to the Law of Georgia on Higher Education” in the third reading, in an expedited manner, and approved it with 77 votes.
Under the legislative amendment, students enrolled before December 17, 2025, will retain the funding they have already received during the transition period, including the 2029-2030 academic year, and will also be allowed to access and increase their funding.
The amendment, adopted by Parliament, fully guarantees students’ participation in state grant competitions and the utilisation of social programmes.
The legislative initiative was put forward by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, with the support of the Government of Georgia.

Next phase of first-year registration for public schools begins on July 20

The next registration phase for children entering their first year of public school for the 2026–2027 academic year will begin on July 20 and run until July 31 inclusive.
According to the Ministry of Education of Georgia, during this phase, first-year registration will be open for remaining vacancies in public schools, as well as places that have become available following the completion of previous stages.
“Information regarding vacant places, school shifts, and language sectors in public schools is available on the online portal of the Education Management Information System. To register, a parent or legal guardian must submit an application to their preferred public school, along with copies of their identity document and the child’s birth certificate. The relevant public school will process the pupil’s registration based on the submitted documentation,” the announcement stated.
