Electricity subsidy amount increases for socially vulnerable families
The electricity subsidy amount increases for socially vulnerable families and households with many children to ensure that their electricity consumption fee remains unchanged after the new tariff is determined, said the Ministry of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs.
According to the government’s decision, families with a rating score of less than 70,000 will receive an additional 5 Tetri subsidy. In total, they will receive the difference between the consumer tariff in December 2020 and July 2015, plus 8.5 Tetri per 1 kWh. Until now, this figure was 3.5 Tetri per 1 kWh.
Those families whose rating score is more than 70,000 and less than or equal to 150,000 will receive a subsidy of 8.5 Tetri per 1 kWh of electricity for 200 kWh. Until now, this figure was 3.5 Tetri per kWh.
The Ministry clarified that the subsidising initiative will extend to beneficiaries both in the Tbilisi Municipality and the regions.
“As for families with many children, they will receive an additional 10 GEL subsidy. Across the country, families with this status will receive 30 GEL instead of 20 GEL as a social benefit for their electricity costs. This is supplemented by a 10 GEL subsidy for each subsequent child. The decision has been enacted since April 1,” the Ministry said.
