Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze views the introduction of two new medicines, Givinostat and Vamorolone, for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) as significant for the Georgian health system.

“Negotiations on the import of Vamorolone have concluded successfully. Only the exchange of signed copies remains, after which work will proceed intensively to make the medication available to patients,” Mikheil Sarjveladze announced following the government meeting.

At today’s meeting, a decision was made regarding the regulation of logistical matters, namely, who will deliver the medication and through which procedure.

This required regulation through a government decree, which would serve as the basis for subsequently defining all procedures in detail via subordinate normative acts. This also includes medical staff training, prescription and monitoring of its use, and measuring its efficiency. We will continue to work in this direction for the medicine to be most effective for each patient,” he said.
