Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday held a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Qohir Rasulzoda, as part of his official visit to Dushanbe. During the one-on-one talks, the two leaders highlighted the special significance of the Georgian Prime Minister’s official visit to Tajikistan, describing it as a landmark event in bilateral relations.

The parties expressed confidence that the first-ever visit by a Georgian Prime Minister to Tajikistan would elevate relations between the two countries to a new level and provide additional momentum for expanding cooperation across various sectors.

The discussions also focused on the importance of strengthening coordination within international organizations and multilateral formats.

Following the bilateral meeting, negotiations continued in an expanded format with the participation of members of both governments.

Prime Minister Rasulzoda described the visit as historic and reaffirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to deepening its friendly relations with Georgia.

“This is a historic moment for our countries. For the first time, the head of the Georgian government has visited Tajikistan, and I am confident that a new and very important chapter will be written in the history of our relations”, Rasulzoda said.

He noted that relations between the peoples of Georgia and Tajikistan have always been based on trust, respect, and sincerity. The Tajik Prime Minister also highlighted the contribution of Georgian professionals to the development of Tajikistan in the fields of science, healthcare, construction, and architecture.

“Our meeting is given additional significance by the fact that one of the main avenues in the center of Dushanbe bears a Georgian name. Our countries have always understood each other well, and today our shared goal is to give strong momentum to bilateral cooperation in all directions”, Rasulzoda stated.

Prime Minister Kobakhidze thanked his Tajik counterpart for the warm hospitality extended to the Georgian delegation.

“This is a historic moment. The first official visit at the highest governmental level from Georgia is taking place in Tajikistan. Our nations and countries are closely connected through historical traditions and friendship, and it is our responsibility to do everything possible to strengthen our partnership and cooperation”, Kobakhidze said.

He reaffirmed Georgia’s commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and thanked Tajikistan for its strong support of Georgia’s national interests.

“I would like to thank Tajikistan for its strong support and protection of Georgia’s national interests. Thank you for respecting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which is of particular importance to our country”, the Georgian Prime Minister added.

Following the meeting, Georgia and Tajikistan signed a number of agreements on cooperation in various fields. The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Ministers Irakli Kobakhidze and Qohir Rasulzoda, marking another important step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
