Georgian PM welcomes World Rugby President Brett Robinson

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, has held a meeting with the President of World Rugby, Brett Robinson.

According to the Government Administration’s press service, discussions centred on Georgia’s highly successful, long-standing cooperation with rugby’s global governing body, a partnership underscored by the country hosting the World Rugby U20 Championship. The Head of Government reaffirmed Georgia’s absolute commitment to deepening this close collaboration with World Rugby.

“It was emphasised that rugby holds a uniquely prestigious status in Georgia, making its continuous development a core priority for the government. In this context, particular attention was paid to ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at expanding the nation’s rugby infrastructure.

During the meeting, it was stressed that the Georgian government places immense value on delivering world-class rugby facilities. The state’s steadily increasing financial investment in the sport is specifically designed to ensure that Georgian rugby remains fully aligned with the highest international standards,” the Government Administration reported.

The meeting was also attended by David Carrigy, Chief International Relations Officer at World Rugby; Shalva Gogoladze, Georgia’s Minister of Sport; Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Government Administration; and Davit Kacharava, President of the Georgian Rugby Union.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Friday signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement, formally elevating bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

Following the expanded-format talks between the two countries' Government delegations, the relevant agencies of Georgia and Uzbekistan also signed a series of memorandums of cooperation covering the fields of economy, healthcare, environmental protection and agriculture, finance, customs, education, information and communication technologies, and culture.
