Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has confiscated a total of 330 so-called crypto mining devices as part of ongoing enforcement measures targeting illegal electricity consumption, according to the Head of the Government Administration, Levan Jorjoliani.
Jorjoliani said the government’s objective is to remove all illegal mining equipment and reduce excessive electricity usage linked to such activities.
“Our goal is to ensure that all mining devices are removed as much as possible, thereby reducing electricity consumption, which exceeded 133 million kWh—an unrealistic figure for a municipality the size of Mestia,” he said.
He added that for a region of that size, electricity consumption should not exceed 7–10 million kWh.
Authorities have called on local residents to cooperate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs in identifying illegal electricity usage and related unlawful economic activities.
