Chairman of the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) Goga Gulordava, together with a Commission delegation, participated in the 2026 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum and the AI for Good Global Summit held in Geneva.

The events were organized by the International Telecommunication Union in cooperation with United Nations agencies, including UNESCO, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, United Nations Development Programme, and the Swiss Confederation.

The Georgian delegation also included GNCC member Ekaterine Imedadze and Head of International Relations Nino Grzelishvili.

According to the Commission, representatives from more than 120 countries reviewed progress in implementing commitments outlined in the WSIS+20 resolution adopted in 2025 and discussed key issues including universal connectivity, artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, digital inclusion, online risks, disinformation, sustainable development through digital technologies, and a people-centered digital future.

During the forum, Gulordava participated in a roundtable discussion of telecommunications regulators focused on implementing the GSR-26 Best Practice Guidelines and developing innovative governance strategies. He also met with Nele Leosk, Estonia’s candidate for Director of the ITU Development Bureau.

Meanwhile, Ekaterine Imedadze took part, on behalf of the Eastern Partnership Electronic Communications Regulators Network, in a Digital Regulation Network (DRN) roundtable dedicated to 5G technologies, digital transformation, digital skills and education, as well as emerging and cloud technologies.

Imedadze also spoke at the high-level Leaders TalkX session, where participants exchanged technical expertise and institutional experiences related to digital transformation, regulatory frameworks, investment in the digital sector, and consumer protection in the online environment.

In addition, she addressed the GovStack Digital Leaders Forum, which focused on inclusive and accessible digital public infrastructure and the role of women in digital transformation. She also participated in a session bringing together female ministers and women leaders in information and communication technologies, which examined ways to address gender and digital inequalities and expand opportunities for women.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) serves as a global platform that brings together governments, regulators, civil society, the private sector, academia, international organizations, and industry leaders to discuss progress, challenges, and opportunities related to the implementation of the 2003 Geneva Action Plan and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. According to the Communications Commission, this year’s WSIS Forum was held alongside the ITU’s AI for Good 2026 Summit and the international dialogue on AI governance organized by the UN General Assembly.
