Georgian Deputy Finance Minister Ekaterine Guntsadze participated in a panel discussion on the topic “Beyond Borders — Connecting Regions and Strengthening Resilience” held during the 11th annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
According to the Finance Ministry, Ekaterine Guntsadze stressed that alongside regional integration, trade, investment, and stronger regional cooperation should be fostered.
The discussion focused on how transport corridors could evolve from individual national investments into coordinated regional systems connecting Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe, and global markets, emphasizing railway, ports, logistic hubs and digital technologies to boost economic sustainability.
Deputy Finance Minister spoke about the implemented measures to ensure the reliability and competitiveness of the Middle Corridor, its historic significance and prospects.
She noted that Georgia began working on the development of this strategic route years ago, and active efforts to enhance its potential are currently underway in cooperation with neighboring countries. This involves the operation of road, rail, and port infrastructure.
“Today, we see that Central Asia is interested in the development of the Middle Corridor. All three South Caucasus countries have the opportunity to act in unison to enhance the potential of this corridor. This coordination gives us hope that the Middle Corridor transit route will prove attractive in the future due to its efficiency and security,” she concluded.

Parliament has formally enacted amendments to the Georgian Tax Code following a third-reading vote, adopting the measure unanimously with 91 votes in favour and none against.
Under the newly passed law, the existing tiered tax system, including the GEL 40,000 baseline threshold and its corresponding variable tax rates, will be abolished. It will be replaced by a single, unified earnings threshold of GEL 100,000, below which individuals will be fully exempt from property tax.
Paata Kvizhinadze, Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee, presented the bill to the plenary session.
The majority-backed tax reform will exempt around 81,000 families from paying property tax.
Enacted under fast-track parliamentary procedures, the law will take effect immediately upon official publication.
The amendment will apply retrospectively to property tax declarations due for submission in 2026 under the Tax Code of Georgia.
