Education Minister reject claims that government focused solely on uniforms - Reform was launched with many other crucial components
“School uniform is not a secondary issue; it is a vital direction given that we are addressing equality among pupils, the provision of a safe environment, and the enhancement of educational quality. This is established practice worldwide,” declared the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze.
According to the Minister, alongside the introduction of school uniforms, the overarching reform is focused on several other major components.
“We began this reform with school uniforms alongside numerous other crucial components: on September 15, pupils entering the first, seventh, and tenth grades will arrive at school to find completely redesigned textbooks and curricula. Textbooks across both the humanities and STEM disciplines are of an exceptionally high standard, and I can assure you that an immense amount of work went into preparing them. Pupils will also encounter new school rules restricting the use of mobile devices during lesson time to ensure children remain fully focused on learning. Beyond this, we have other key directions outlined in the reform framework. I completely reject the premise that we are focused solely on uniforms. Uniforms represent just one, albeit vital, component,” the Minister noted.

Georgian Water and Power (GWP) has released a statement regarding an incident that occurred within the water supply network rehabilitation area on Rustaveli Avenue.
According to the statement, a severe breach of occupational health and safety standards and contractual terms was identified, as a young child was present inside the tipper truck involved.
“During rehabilitation works on the water supply network on Rustaveli Avenue, a tipper truck belonging to a GWP contractor company drove near the edge of a trench, causing the soil to collapse and the vehicle to slide. While attempting to free the vehicle, the truck overturned, causing further damage to the trench.
No injuries resulted from the incident. Work at the site continues without interruption as normal.
Georgian Water and Power stresses that a gross violation of occupational safety regulations and contractual obligations was uncovered: a young child was inside the tipper truck.
Relevant GWP departments are investigating the event on-site to establish the exact circumstances. Immediately upon completion of the inquiry, the company will take legal measures against the contractor organisation as stipulated by contract and governing law,” the GWP statement reads.
