Free parking introduced on surrounding streets and rent waived for underground underpass tenants - Rustaveli rehabilitation
“Owing to the large-scale rehabilitation works underway on Rustaveli Avenue, parking on adjacent streets has been rendered temporarily free of charge for citizens. Furthermore, tenants leasing commercial space in the underpasses along the avenue will be exempt from rental payments,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced at today’s municipal cabinet meeting.
“Commercial spaces operate within the underpasses on Rustaveli Avenue under lease agreements. Throughout the rehabilitation process, these tenants will be exempt from rental charges, which is a vital measure. This applies to 37 Rustaveli Avenue, the area in front of First Gymnasium, the Opera House, and part of the Freedom Square underpass,” stated Kakha Kaladze.
Regarding parking, the zonal-hourly parking system has been temporarily suspended across 28 streets in the Mtatsminda district.
“Due to the extensive rehabilitation works being executed on Rustaveli Avenue, the zonal-hourly parking system has been temporarily disabled on surrounding streets, making parking free of charge for citizens for the duration of the works,” the Mayor noted.
Parking is free of charge on the following streets: Tabukashvili, Vachnadze, Shengelaia, Leonidze, Sulkhan-Saba, Ingorokva, Gudiashvili, Purtseladze, Jorjadze, Chanturia, Laghidze, Meskhia, Abashidze, Javakhishvili, Akhvlediani, Kakabadze Brothers, Kiacheli, Nikoladze, Miminoshvili, Griboedov, Chavchavadze, Laghidze, Besiki, Zhvania, Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Zubalashvili Brothers, and Chichinadze.

Georgian Water and Power (GWP) has released a statement regarding an incident that occurred within the water supply network rehabilitation area on Rustaveli Avenue.
According to the statement, a severe breach of occupational health and safety standards and contractual terms was identified, as a young child was present inside the tipper truck involved.
“During rehabilitation works on the water supply network on Rustaveli Avenue, a tipper truck belonging to a GWP contractor company drove near the edge of a trench, causing the soil to collapse and the vehicle to slide. While attempting to free the vehicle, the truck overturned, causing further damage to the trench.
No injuries resulted from the incident. Work at the site continues without interruption as normal.
Georgian Water and Power stresses that a gross violation of occupational safety regulations and contractual obligations was uncovered: a young child was inside the tipper truck.
Relevant GWP departments are investigating the event on-site to establish the exact circumstances. Immediately upon completion of the inquiry, the company will take legal measures against the contractor organisation as stipulated by contract and governing law,” the GWP statement reads.
