Google officially launches street view in Georgia
Google has officially launched Google Street View in Georgia in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Georgian Innovation and Technology Agency, the Ministry’s press service said.
The project showcases Georgia’s natural landscapes, diverse cities and ancient cultural heritage on the global digital map. Through 360-degree panoramic imagery, Google Street View makes it easier for people around the world, including tourists and investors, to explore the country virtually.
The Street View team has captured approximately 13,000 kilometres of roads, transport networks and major tourist destinations across Georgia, including Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi, Akhaltsikhe, Mtskheta, Telavi, Zugdidi, Gori, Ozurgeti and Mestia.
Beyond offering virtual exploration, Street View is expected to support the development of Georgia’s digital economy infrastructure and strengthen small and medium-sized businesses. The platform increases the international visibility of local shops, family-run hotels and restaurants.
The initiative also supports Georgia’s digital development goals by providing entrepreneurs and developers with enhanced mapping tools and helping them create new services and applications for both tourists and local residents, contributing to the growth of the country’s technology ecosystem.
According to the project organisers, Street View is more than simply mapping roads in Georgia. It provides an opportunity to make the country’s unique attractions accessible to a global audience and inspire travellers from around the world to discover Georgia before planning their visits.
The launch comes amid continued growth in Georgia’s tourism sector. International travellers increasingly use Street View to preview destinations, assess neighbourhoods, parking options, terrain and local surroundings, making travel planning more convenient and informed.
