GWP apologises for erroneous billing following system glitch, promises automatic adjustments via SMS
In August 2026, Georgian Water and Power (GWP) initiated an audit to identify and regulate unregistered connections to the sewerage network, in line with current legislation and rules established under GNERC Resolution No. 32. The initiative aimed to ensure fair and equal conditions for all customers by detecting and regularising unregistered properties within the network, the company said in an official statement.
According to GWP, technical and systemic errors arose during data processing, leading to discrepancies and incorrect charges applied to certain accounts.
“Georgian Water and Power acknowledges the error, is actively working to resolve the issue, and apologises to customers for the inconvenience caused. The relevant departments are reviewing each customer’s case individually.
Customers who were erroneously billed will receive a text message (SMS) notification by the end of the day on 10 September, and the incorrect charges will be adjusted. Should any issues persist, customers are invited to contact the GWP helpline or visit our service centres. Georgian Water and Power guarantees a prompt, individual review of every query and the swift correction of affected balances,” the company statement read.
