Georgian Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze inspected infrastructure projects in Abastumani resort and said the development of Abastumani was one of the top priorities for the government.

The Minister visited the reconstruction works of the Abastumani bypass road, as well as those leading to the Observatory and Asatiani Street. He held a working meeting with members of the parliament, local authorities, and representatives of the Roads Department, Municipal Development Fund and contractor companies to review works underway within the Abastumani urban renovation program.

The Roads Department terminated contracts with two companies due to delays in the Abastumani bypass road construction.

The new contractor has launched works, and the 17-kilometer road will be completed in autumn of 2027, connecting Abastumani and Baghdati municipality.

The project is significant for the local population, the development of domestic and international tourism, and the improvement of the country’s transport connectivity. Alongside the construction work taking place in challenging terrain, special attention is being paid to environmental protection. Restoration of forests damaged during road construction will begin concurrently.

“Our goal is to inflict less harm to nature and ecosystems, since they represent the main wealth of Abastumani and this region,” the Minister said.

The increasing private sector activity contributes to the development of Abastumani. New tourism facilities are under construction at the resort; alongside infrastructure projects, this will help establish Abastumani as a new tourism hub.
