Key to Media platform expanded to feature over 200 educational film resources - ComCom
More than 60 new resources have been added to “Key to Media” (Mediis Gasaghebi), the Communications Commission’s media literacy platform hosted at www.mediatsigniereba.ge. The site now brings together educational and discussion materials for over 200 films and animated features.
According to the Communications Commission (ComCom), the project is an online educational platform based on a Finnish model recognised by the European Commission for advancing media literacy.
“The project fosters critical thinking in young people through the analysis and discussion of film, helping them comprehend media content and accurately evaluate media messages.
The resources available on the platform were specially developed for the ‘Key to Media’ initiative by professional psychologists and film scholars. A brief plot summary, thematic highlights, core values, and discussion questions accompany each film. These materials enable young viewers to focus on key scenes, encouraging joint, reasoned debate while making the viewing experience interactive and engaging,” stated the Communications Commission.
The online platform hosts films and animations tailored for four age groups: children aged 4–8, pupils aged 9–11, and adolescents aged 12–14 and 15–18.
As the Communications Commission noted, “Key to Media” enables parents and teachers to select age-appropriate films for children, facilitate discussions with them, and explore constructive content together.
“The discussion prompts help young people grasp the central message of a film, draw sound conclusions, evaluate the nature of media products, and form their own perspectives, ultimately developing their critical thinking, logical reasoning, and media literacy skills.
The platform also features a practical guide for parents and teachers, providing step-by-step guidance on running the screenings effectively. The guide further explains how films can be integrated into classroom lesson plans across various subjects,” the Communications Commission added.
The “Key to Media” platform also features trailers for popular Georgian and international films and animated features, as well as full-length streams of selected short films.
