NBG President participates in international conference held in Armenia
Natia Turnava, President of the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), took part in an international conference organised jointly by the Central Bank of Armenia and the Reinventing Bretton Woods Committee (RBWC).
On the sidelines of the conference, Turnava delivered an address at a panel discussion entitled “Challenges Facing Central Banks in an Increasingly Fragmented International Monetary System.” Participants discussed central bank independence, the challenges of inflation management, and the impact of geopolitical risks and growing global uncertainty on monetary policy.
In her remarks, the President of the National Bank emphasised that Georgia has successfully maintained strong economic growth alongside price stability in recent years.
“In recent years, Georgia has managed to maintain price stability alongside high economic growth. This achievement has been underpinned by the National Bank’s prudent, forward-looking monetary policy, alongside responsible fiscal policy. It is precisely this kind of coordination that creates the foundation for macroeconomic stability, sustainable economic growth, and the strengthening of investor confidence,” the President of the National Bank stated.
Turnava also drew attention to the National Bank of Georgia’s introduction of a scenario-based approach in the monetary policy implementation; this methodology enhances the predictability and transparency of decision-making and enables more robust risk assessment.
The discussion then shifted to current challenges in inflation management, with participants highlighting that central banks are increasingly required to navigate conditions characterised by simultaneous supply-side and demand-side shocks.
The RBWC international conference brought together central bank governors, representatives of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and other international financial institutions, as well as experts from leading universities and research centres worldwide.
