The Georgian police have launched an investigation into violations of energy consumption regulations in the Municipality of Mestia, where 148 cryptocurrency mining devices, known as miners, have been seized.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, law enforcement officers conducted a series of coordinated operational and investigative measures that led to the discovery of cryptocurrency mining equipment at six different locations across the municipality.
The investigation found that local residents had allegedly been using the devices to systematically generate digital currency while illegally consuming large amounts of electricity and obtaining unlawful income.
During searches carried out by law enforcement officers, a significant quantity of specialized technical equipment was seized.
Investigators continue to conduct active investigative activities aimed at identifying other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged offenses.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 229¹, Part 2, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison.
