Rustaveli Avenue rehabilitation to finish by end of November, contract extension merely a technical adjustment - Tbilisi Mayor

“Reports regarding the completion timeline for the Rustaveli Avenue rehabilitation project are false,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has declared.

Speaking at a meeting of the Tbilisi City Municipal Government, the Mayor stated that certain media outlets were deliberately spreading inaccurate information to mislead the public.

“Over recent days, TV Pirveli and Business Media Group have been disseminating deliberate falsehoods concerning the project’s completion. When we started the work, we said from the outset that the rehabilitation would be completed by the end of November. I also addressed this and provided clarifications during the previous government meeting. Despite all of this, these specific media outlets are attempting to deliberately spread lies and mislead the population, claiming the project was supposed to be completed in October and that the contract for the company involved was extended by a month,” Kakha Kaladze stated.

He further clarified that adjusting the contract duration was a purely technical measure that would not affect the overall completion schedule.

According to the Mayor, the Rustaveli Avenue works will be fully completed by the end of November.

“When we announced the tender, a contract was signed with the winning company covering 100 days. However, Georgian Water and Power (GWP) is carrying out the initial works. The underground network was completely dilapidated, and naturally, they were responsible for fixing it. Generally, on all such projects where we undertake large-scale rehabilitation, GWP follows us to perform the necessary works under their remit. Once those works are finished, the company that won our tender steps in to execute the project—installing the storm drainage system and carrying out all essential road infrastructure works. This was simply a technical adjustment; the works will be completed by the end of November. This has been reiterated numerous times before, yet certain media outlets continue to try to deceive the public and provide false information. Do not believe them, my friends. As I told you, the works are scheduled for completion by the end of November, and rehabilitation efforts are progressing very actively,” the Mayor of Tbilisi noted.
