Iberia’s win over Larne ends 22-year wait for Georgian football club in European group stage
A Georgian football club will compete in the group stage of a European competition for the first time in 22 years after Tbilisi-based Iberia secured qualification for the UEFA Conference League league phase.
Iberia Tbilisi defeated Northern Irish side Larne 2-1 in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round, earning a place in the main stage of the UEFA Conference League.
The historic achievement marks the return of a Georgian team to the group stage of a European tournament after a 22-year absence.
By reaching the Conference League league phase, Iberia has guaranteed participation in European group-stage football this season and will now compete against clubs from across the continent.

The Georgian Weightlifting National Federation announced that Lado Dzimtseishvili has been crowned European champion and set a new continental record at the ongoing European Youth (U17) Weightlifting Championships in Pristina, Kosovo.
Representing Georgia in the 85 kg weight category, Dzimtseishvili competed under the guidance of national team head coach Zurab Antauri.
The Georgian athlete secured the bronze medal in the snatch with a lift of 139 kg, earning his first podium finish of the competition.
He then claimed gold in the clean and jerk with a lift of 175 kg, becoming European champion in the discipline and setting a new European record.
Dzimtseishvili capped off his successful performance by winning the overall title with a combined total of 314 kg across the two lifts, securing another European championship victory for Georgia.
