Georgian tourists spent nearly 630 million GEL abroad in Q1 2026 - Geostat
According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat), Georgian residents undertook 640,900 trips abroad during the first quarter of 2026, representing a 4.3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. The majority of these trips, 43.4 per cent, were made by travellers aged 31 to 50. Of these, 496,300 trips were by Georgian residents, marking a 2.9 per cent rise from the equivalent period in 2025.
GeoStat also reports that Georgian residents made a total of 328,800 tourist visits abroad, a 1.7 per cent increase compared to the first quarter of the previous year.
The largest share of visits, 46.7 per cent, was made by residents aged 31 to 50, with women accounting for 45.6 per cent of all visits.
The agency’s report reveals that the most common purpose for visits in the first quarter of 2026 was to visit friends or relatives, accounting for 35.3 per cent of trips. The most popular destinations were Turkey and the Russian Federation, with 172,400 and 89,300 visits, respectively.
Additionally, GeoStat notes that the average duration of visits was 6.8 nights, a 1.4 per cent increase compared to the first quarter of 2025 (6.7 nights). Remarkably, 99.1 per cent of these visits were repeat trips.
Expenditure during these visits reached 629.1 million GEL, a significant 30.7 per cent rise from the same period in 2025. The average spend per visit also increased by 26.9 per cent, amounting to 1,267.7 GEL.

Georgia’s tourism sector generated a record $4.7 billion in revenue in 2025, said on Friday Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during his annual address to the legislative body.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that Georgia hosted 7.8 million international travelers in 2025, including 5.522 million tourist visits, marking an 8.4% increase compared to the previous year.
“2025 was a record year in terms of tourism revenue. Tourism generated $4.7 billion in revenue last year. In 2025, we hosted 7.8 million international travelers, including 5.522 million tourist visits. This segment recorded 8.4% growth. Despite the conflict in the Middle East, which naturally affected tourist flows, tourism revenue still increased by 0.5% in the first quarter of 2026”, he said.
“During the same period, Georgia’s airports served 4.3% more passengers year-on-year, with more than 1.6 million passengers and 7,800 flights operated”, the PM continued.
Kobakhidze further added that twenty new hotels, offering around 1,000 hotel rooms, opened during this period.
“As of today, Georgia has 2,691 hotels with a total of 53,000 rooms. The Ministry of Economy is carrying out very important marketing activities in our strategic markets”, he concluded.
