Armenia considers possible electricity imports from Georgia
Armenia is considering the possibility of importing electricity from Georgia, according to Armenian media.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the remarks during a briefing, saying Yerevan was assessing different options for importing electricity if needed, including from neighbouring countries.
“There are different modes of electricity transmission. Sometimes countries have surplus electricity, while at other times they face increased demand. Given that Armenia is investing in artificial intelligence, we need to determine whether, if necessary, we will be able to import electricity from any country, including Azerbaijan”, Pashinyan said.
Pashinyan emphasised that Armenia was also discussing the issue with Georgia, Türkiye and Iran.
His comments came after a working meeting between representatives of the Azerbaijani and Armenian energy authorities held in Lachin last Tuesday.
The sides discussed possibilities for electricity imports and exports, as well as potential options for connecting energy infrastructure between Armenia and Azerbaijani along their state border.
The meeting marked another practical contact between Baku and Yerevan in the energy sector.
If the agreements are implemented, electricity could become a new area of economic cooperation between Georgia and Armenia.
